What We’re Up to, Part 1

Hello! What a crazy few months it has been!

The members of Shelly’s Voice have been hard at work attending numerous meetings to finalize all of our administerial tasks. Shelly’s Voice has partnered with Indiana Youth Group. IYG, a leader in LGBTQ+ support for youth, will act as a fiduciary agent and provide other support services to us! In the past few months, the 6 of us have held what feels like millions of meetings. Through these meetings, our Advocacy Group has created this website, multiple social media accounts, aided Roncalli in creation of their Support Group, began the planning stages for multiple events, rallies, and marches, and we are currently in the process of finalizing Shelly’s Voice Merchandise!

Among other things like our brief appearance on Ellen, we had the opportunity to speak at the Southern Indiana Pride event in front of future senators, state representatives the Department of Education, and other people involved in public office. We also were extremely honored and blessed to receive the Essex Pride Award from IUPUI’s LGBTQ+ Center for being an “exemplary organization that’s serving the Indianapolis LGBTQ+ community.”

Now begins the fun part- the activism! This is where you come in! We need your help!

To check out upcoming events you can attend, please click on the “BE THE CHANGE” tab to see our calendar!

Shelly’s Voice is officially ready to take on their mission of inspiring change in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis’ employee morality contract. It didn’t take long for us to answer the question “How are we going to start our efforts?” because we always knew the power of community. That is why we invite you to our December 4th Launch Party, where we will take the next steps in bringing an end to the discrimination of the LGBT+ community. Throughout the night, you will have the opportunity to write letters to church leaders, sign up to be on a Shelly’s Voice committee, grab some Shelly’s Voice gear, hear from the founders of Shelly’s Voice, and get motivated for the months to come. (If that doesn’t excite you, then I hope the dessert bar will!) This event is set up to be flexible with your schedule. You can stop in for 15 minutes or stay for the full event! We are truly looking forward to hosting our first event with all of you. If you cannot make it, we invite you to see the many other ways you can support us through our website (shellysvoice.org). Please RSVP at shellysvoice.org!

We can inspire change by making our voices heard by the Catholic leaders. To write a letter to a Catholic leader, please click on the “BE THE CHANGE” tab and select the option “EXPRESS YOUR VOICE”.

To be involved with one of our six committees, (Advancement, Web Promotions, Social Media, Event Coordination, Marketing, or GSA Coordination), please select the “BE THE CHANGE” tab and select the option “GET INVOLVED.”

Also, please do not hesitate to email us if you have any questions or suggestions. You can find our contact information under the “CONTACT US” tab. We are so excited to grow our advocacy mission by getting other members of the community involved!

Lastly, we just want to say thank you to those supporting us. This unexpected journey has not been easy. Your support has been a huge motivation for us to continue advocating for the LGBTQ+ community.  We are so excited to finally get our eager community involved, and can’t wait to see you at our Launch Party Let’s create a community that will stand up for what is right- LOVE! It’s time for change! It’s time for acceptance! Who’s ready to advocate?

With love,

Shelly’s Voice Advocacy Group
